National Science Foundation resources combine with Binghamton University’s to offer the Binghamton regional I-Corps program. I-Corps is for teams pursuing research-based concepts who have yet to discover their true target market.

Accepted teams participate in virtual workshops over three weeks. Instructors work with the teams to build and hone a business model canvas with the goal of determining potential
target customer segments. Upon identifying customer types, funding is provided to conduct interviews with their defined target customer.

Customer Discovery Short Course

The short course is designed to take teams on a journey of discovering who may be their customers and what value they are looking for. Teams will learn about business models using the Lean Launchpad methodology in a series of workshops. The 3-week Short Course provides:


  • 2 half-day kick off workshops and a half-day closing workshop
  • Weekly 90-minute online sessions
  • Opportunity for teams to conduct 20 customer discovery interviews
  • $3000 funding

NSF Teams Program

Upon completion of the local Short Course, participants are eligible to apply for the NSF I Corps Team National program. Through I-Corps, NSF grantees learn to identify valuable product opportunities that can emerge from their innovative ideas and to build a business model using evidence-based lean startup methodology.
